ABOUT REV. DR. TYRONE JACKSON, JR.

Reverend Dr. Tyrone Jackson, Jr. is an anointed, uniquely gifted and powerful preacher. He is a teacher and leader who is dedicated to the cause of Christ with a great concern for the welfare of humanity.  A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, he is the only child born to Tyrone Jackson, Sr. and Winnifred G. Hagans Jackson.  In 1987, he relocated to Petersburg, Virginia, where he was educated in the Petersburg Public School System, graduating from Petersburg High School in 1997. 

Dr. Jackson matriculated at John Tyler Community College, Chester, VA, where he earned an Associate’s Degree of Applied Science in Mortuary Science in 2000 and is currently a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer in the State of Virginia.  He received a Bachelor of Theology degree in 2003 from Richmond Virginia Seminary, Richmond, VA and in May 2009 a Master of Divinity from Virginia Union University Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology, Richmond, VA.  In June 2015, Dr. Jackson received the Honorary Degree, Doctor of Humane Letters from The Richmond Virginia Seminary, and in 2017 became a graduate of United Theology Seminary, Dayton, Ohio, with aDoctor of Ministry (D. Min.) degree.

Dr. Jackson was called to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ in 1997. He was licensed on February 13, 2000, at Trinity Baptist Church, Petersburg, VA. under the leadership of Rev. Jeffery L. Dodson, Sr.  On March 9, 2002, he was ordained at Olive Branch Baptist Church, Dinwiddie, VA., under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Alfred L. Thompson.  Dr. Jackson accepted his first Pastorate in April 2003, at Wilborne Baptist Church, Waverly, VA.  Pastor Jackson is a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church, Dinwiddie, VA. His Pastor is Rev. Dr. Kevin M. Northam, his Father in the Ministry is Rev. Dr. Alfred L. Thompson and his Mother in the Ministry is Rev. Deborah K. Coleman.

In August 2008, Dr. Jackson became the proud and esteemed Pastor of First Baptist Church Campostella (FBCC), Norfolk, VA.  Under his leadership motto, “Doing It God’s Way -Becoming a Better Me; Spiritually, Mentally, Physically, Financially, and Relationally”. The church has witnessed tremendous growth in membership and ministries.  He continues to uplift the Kingdom of God with progressive and innovative church projects. 

Among his many commitments, Dr. Jackson serves as the First Vice Moderator of the Tidewater-Peninsula Baptist Association and Past Moderator of the Old Dominion Baptist Association.  He holds memberships with the Tidewater Metro Ministers’ Conference; Virginia Baptist State Convention, Inc.; National Baptist Convention, USA; F.L.A.M.E. (Fostering Leadership and Ministry Excellence); Southside Funeral Directors Association of Virginia; Virginia Morticians Association, Inc.; National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association, Inc.; and a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.  

Dr. Jackson believes in building strong and safe communities and is very active in the Petersburg/Tri-Cities and Hampton Roads area. He is the founder of Partners in Christ, a ministry that provides volunteer services, educational assistance for students, and most importantly, teaches the Word of God.

Dr. Jackson is married to the former Jonette D. Merriweather, and they are the proud and blessed parents of a precious gift from God, Tyla J.  

Dr. Tyrone Jackson, Jr. has a genuine passion for teaching the Word of God.  It is his belief that he can do all things through Christ and with God all things are possible. His words to live by: “Just trust and believe, and it will come to pass.”
